About Us

The Health Equity Advocates Network (HEAN) was founded by Kamara Nnadi at El Camino College with a vision of creating a student-led movement centered on education, leadership, advocacy, and community impact. HEAN began with the belief that students have the ability to understand the health challenges affecting their communities and play an active role in creating solutions. By providing students with the knowledge, resources, and opportunities to lead, HEAN aims to turn awareness into meaningful action.

At the heart of HEAN is the belief that health equity should be understood from an early age. Through student-led chapters, community initiatives, health education, and partnerships with elementary and middle schools, HEAN works to introduce health equity concepts to younger generations while empowering older students to become mentors and advocates. This creates an opportunity for students to not only learn about health equity, but to share that knowledge with others and multiply its impact.

What began as a chapter at El Camino College is growing into a broader network of student leaders committed to advancing health equity. As HEAN expands to new schools and communities, each chapter contributes to a larger movement—developing leaders, strengthening communities, and cultivating a generation that understands that everyone deserves a fair opportunity to achieve their best health.
